ECE R44/04 is the current European regulation for testing car seats. i-Size (ECE R129) is the new standard that was signed in July 2013 and runs parallel to R44/04. i-Size has some significant differences to R44/04:
- Required rear-facing driving for babies up to 15 months to ensure better protection of neck and head in case of a frontal or side impact
- ISOFIX system mandatory
- Use of car seat depending on the child's size (instead of weight as previously in ECE R44/04)
